Where in the park is Neil? The final answer is “making memories”

As part of the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, we’re going on a virtual tour with Neil Howk, a man who has spent decades exploring the islands and teaching people about what makes them special. He knows the islands like the back of his hand.

In the past five months we have explored Apostle Islands National Lakeshore with Neil as he visited nearly every island in the park. (Did you notice which one he missed?)

On September 26, we are observing Apostle Islands National Lakeshore’s 50th anniversary.  A wonderful thing about this place is that visitors tend to come here to mark special events in their own lives.

As we bring “Where in the Park is Neil” to a close, we are returning to one of Neil’s favorite spots in the park where he and his wife celebrated their first wedding anniversary.

In September 1984, Neil and his wife Susan spent their anniversary on Raspberry Island.  These slides are from that trip.

There have been a few changes to the island in the past 36 years, but it is still recognizable.  For a more detailed virtual tour of Raspberry Island, visit the National Park Service website.

By the way, the only island that Neil missed on his virtual tour of the park was Ironwood.  Thanks for sharing this journey and stay tuned for upcoming further adventures around the park.  Happy Anniversary Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
