BAYFIELD, WISCONSIN (National Park Service) – Join us for the virtual Apostle Islands National Lakeshore 50th Anniversary Resource Stewardship Symposium on March 30-31, where twenty-six presenters will share the rich story of the Apostle Islands – from archeology, cultural resources and traditional ecological knowledge to water quality, fisheries, fire, plants, wetlands, birds, amphibians, and mammals to climate change and innovative youth programs. Participation in this special 50thAnniversary virtual event is free, but registration is required. The registration deadline is March 28, 2021. “Our partners made this symposium possible through staff and funding support,” said Superintendent Lynne Dominy. “Northland College is hosting the event while the Friends of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore (FAINL) is sponsoring it with business and community partners.
The Official park anniversary started in September 2020 when the park was established 50 years ago. Most events will be virtual and designed to bring the lakeshore into people’s homes so they can stay connected to the park and share their own personal experiences even from their living rooms. The celebration is rooted in the community and involves interested organizations, businesses, and individuals around the lakeshore.
