Bear Island
JOIN USAbout the Island
At about 233 feet above the surface of Lake Superior, Bear Island is second only to Oak Island in elevation. Although it was logged as late as the mid twentieth century, the second and third growth has returned most of the island to a fairly wild state.
Bear Island is centrally located among the islands and can be used as a relaxing overnight stopping point, or a place to rest and relax in the middle of a longer paddle. Excerpts from Apostle Islands Water Trips by John C. Frank. Buy a copy here.
