About the Island

Because of its inaccessibility, the island remains an isolated spiritual mystery filled with unique vegetation natural to more northern latitudes. (NPS Photograph above features Mistassini Primrose, which normally grow in Canada.)

This narrow island is just over a mile long north to south and only about a quarter mile wide. Probably because of its distance from the mainland and the stunted nature of its boreal forest exposed to the open lake, the island has never been logged.
