Update: Thanks to our friends who bid on “Sunrise in Quiet Cove” during our recent silent auction. Bidding is now closed. Read about the winning bid here.
Thanks to the generosity of local watercolorist Dale Whittaker, you may now bid on this original 11.5 x 14.5 inch painting in an 18 x 22 inch frame, “Sunrise in Quiet Cove.” Dale’s painting depicts the brownstone cliffs, pines, and clear water of Lake Superior in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. He created this work while he was on the water with Friends Executive Director Jeff Rennicke. Jeff captured the moment and talked with Dale about his process and his love for the islands, in this story on our website.
I believe it is why civilizations have landed here over time. I find that when a moment excites me, I have more fun and it is more natural for the painting to capture that mood.
Mystery creates the story of a painting. It pulls you in. It challenges you to complete the story, to imagine what is through that window, through those trees. The Apostle Islands are FULL of mystery and magic.”
When asked what is it that he hopes people will see in his paintings? Dale replies, “I hope they feel more than they see. I hope they feel the mood of the moment, experience a sense of awe, and are taken to a wild, beautiful place that is much as it has always been.”
The starting bid is $600. Enter your bid below (it must be greater than the current bid shown). When you do that, the “next” button will activate. Click that and you will be taken to a screen where you enter your payment information. You will only be charged if you win the auction, which concludes on August 27, 2024 at 08:00 PM CDT.
