Tucked safely into a quiet bay just two miles south of Bayfield, Port Superior Marina with its more than 200 slips, is a prime gateway to the adventure, beauty, and history of the Apostle Islands.

Recently, we sat down with Morgan Wright of the Port Superior Marina team to discuss their long-time commitment to safe boating, the islands, and their support of Friends of the Apostle Islands.

How important are the Apostle Islands to the success of your business and the experience of your customers?

The Apostle Islands are significant to Port Superior Marina for several reasons. First, of course, is their natural beauty and the recreational opportunities they provide. The Apostle Islands offer stunning natural landscapes, including pristine beaches, sandstone sea caves, and lush forests. This makes the area a prime destination for boating, hiking, and exploring, attracting visitors to the marina.

Then there are the sheltered waters. The islands provide sheltered waters ideal for boating. Their proximity creates a network of protected bays and anchorages, making it safer and more enjoyable for boaters to navigate Lake Superior.

The marina’s location near the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore also underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship. We strive to withhold our status as a certified Wisconsin Clean Marina. We do this by having some of the best management practices that help protect the water quality of Wisconsin’s waterways.

Why does Port Superior feel it is important to support the work of Friends of the Apostle Islands as a Business Member and Wave Watch sponsor?

There are a lot of reasons we support Friends. Their work on projects that improve accessibility and visitor amenities is making the islands more enjoyable and accessible for all visitors, including those with disabilities, thereby enriching the experience for marina patrons. Supporting Friends fosters community and shared responsibility among local businesses, residents, and visitors. It demonstrates the marina’s commitment to the local community and its natural resources, which can enhance its reputation and strengthen community ties.

The preservation and enhancement of the Apostle Islands attract more tourists and boaters to the area, which can lead to increased business for Port Superior Marina. A well-maintained and accessible national lakeshore can boost local tourism, benefiting the marina and other local businesses.
Friends also focuses on educational programs that raise awareness about the natural and cultural history of the islands. By supporting these initiatives, the marina can help promote environmental education and stewardship among its visitors, fostering a deeper appreciation for the unique environment of the Apostle Islands.

Overall, supporting Friends of the Apostle Islands aligns with Port Superior Marina’s mission to provide exceptional services and promote environmental stewardship, ensuring that the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of the Apostle Islands are preserved for future generations.

Finally, let us in on a little secret. Tell us your favorite place in the islands and why.

Our favorite place within the islands would be Stockton Island. We love Stockton for the docking space, pristine beaches, and the fun ride out there!

Friends of the Apostle Islands would like to thank Port Superior Marina and all of our Business Members for their ongoing support.
