We’ve created Summer Challenge cards to help you and your family to make the most of your next adventure in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore during our 50th Anniversary celebration.

We’ve included an easy way for you to share your creativity here. We’ll share the best submissions on our website and in our social media channels. You can also post to Instagram using hashtag #AIpark50. And you may even win a fun prize if you enter our drawing by September 25, 2021. Find the entry form on the back of the challenge card. It’s all part of the 50th Anniversary celebration for the National Lakeshore.

    Bonus Challenges

    1. Take a picture or do a drawing of the brownstone blocks still waiting on the shoreline of Hermit Island and visible from the water.

    2. Search for the name “Pike” etched in brownstone on one of the downtown Bayfield businesses and identify who “Pike” was.

    3. Draw, Photograph, or describe your favorite Apostle Island sea cave.

    4. Draw, Photograph, or describe a Bayfield fish tug.

    5. Identify the popular Apostle Island sport associated with the terms “jib” and “tack” and “telltale.”

    6. Climb Mount Ashwabay and count how many Apostle Islands you can see from the summit.

    7. Name, photograph, or draw one of the ships represented outside of the Bayfield Maritime Museum.
     
    8. What activity associated with the lake was the building now used as the Madeline Island Ferry passenger terminal in Bayfield once used for?

    9. Name, draw, or photograph three of the boats in the Bayfield harbor during your visit.

    10. Name the two U.S. presidents who have visited the Apostle Islands.
