Round Up for Friends this June at the Chequamegon Food Co-op

Do you want to eat healthy and support Friends of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore? It’s as easy as saying “Round up for Friends” at the checkout counter any time during the month of  June at Ashland’s Chequamegon Food Co-op. “Round Up for Partners” is a program that gives shoppers the option to “round up” to the next whole dollar (or more) on purchases made at the co-op. The proceeds from that rounding up are then donated to that month’s featured nonprofit organization to serve our community.  June is “Round Up for Friends of the Apostle Islands” month. Since the Round Up for Partners...

Invest in Our Planet: Earth Day 2022

Invest in Our Planet: Earth Day 2022

The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore will forever share a very special connection with Earth Day — both began in 1970 and both were championed by Wisconsin’s own Gaylord A. Nelson. This year, the theme of Earth Day is “Invest in Our Planet.” Since its inception, Friends of the Apostle Islands has invested in the islands by raising over $500,000 to support the park in our four pillars of Accessibility, Education, Stewardship, and Service.  This Earth Day, we are asking you to “Invest in Our Planet” with a donation to Friends of the Apostle Islands.  Your donation will: Help kids learn to...

Become a “Keeper” of the Apostle Islands

Become a “Keeper” of the Apostle Islands

Dear “Friends,” I find myself fascinated by the word ‘keeper’ - someone who looks after something that is valuable. We are familiar with the lighthouse keepers in the Apostle Islands. Put yourself in their shoes. Imagine being on an island, keeping the light burning, tending the grounds, managing staff, providing for your family, recording the weather, watching for vessels in stress, polishing brass, and above all, being responsible for the lives of countless mariners you will never meet. Now spring forward some 100 years. The original job of light keeping has given way to automated lights....
